EPD launches mobile application "EV-Charging Easy" (with photos)
**************************************************************************
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (June 17) launched the "EV-Charging Easy" mobile app to provide information on locations and real-time availabilities of electric vehicle (EV) public chargers, equipping EV drivers with handy information about the real-time usage of public chargers.

The Environment Bureau announced the Hong Kong Roadmap on Popularisation of Electric Vehicles in March last year to set forth various policies and measures to promote the use of EVs and advance towards zero vehicular emissions, including expansion of the EV charging network by various means. The Government allocated $120 million in 2019 to install over 1 000 medium chargers at government car parks over the following three years. Most of them have completed the installation process and are open for public use. As at May this year, there were about 4 900 EV public chargers in Hong Kong, with about 1 800 of them provided by the Government.

An EPD spokesman said, "The Government and private organisations have been expanding charging facilities to popularise the use of EVs. The mobile app 'EV-Charging Easy' launched today is the first step by the Government to provide real-time information on charger availabilities at public car parks, and we will gradually extend the coverage of real-time information. Moreover, the app enables users to save a personalised favourite car park list for direct access to chargers' information. By locating the user, the app also provides suggested route(s) to the designated car park. The app supports iOS, Android and Huawei mobile devices."

In order to further extend the coverage of the mobile app, the EPD has invited other public and private organisations to share their public charger information with "EV-Charging Easy", with some indicating their willingness to join. The EPD will continue to add information provided by these organisations to the mobile app.

Details of the "EV-Charging Easy" mobile app are available on the EPD website www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/mobile-apps.html. A related promotional video has also been uploaded to the Environment Bureau’s YouTube channel (youtu.be/00QdKIfT90s) to introduce the mobile app to the public.
