Government launches music video on World Environment Day to promote carbon neutrality (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
In support of World Environment Day 2022, the Environment Bureau (ENB) today (June 5) launched a music video and Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs), featuring "Carbon Neutrality" Ambassador Lee Wai-sze, to appeal to all sectors of the community to actively participate in climate action. The music video aims to promote decarbonisation messages, including saving the earth's resources and adopting a low-carbon lifestyle, in a lively manner.

The theme song of the music video is a rearrangement of Mozart's famous masterpiece, Serenade No. 13 in G Major, "A Little Night Music", with lyrics appealing for public support for carbon neutrality. In the music video, "Carbon Neutrality" Ambassador Lee Wai-sze, and the ENB's mascot "Hanson" perform vividly to demonstrate to the public how Hong Kong could switch to a low-carbon lifestyle. The music video and APIs are being broadcast today through various channels, including social media, television and radio, and the Climate Ready website (www.climateready.gov.hk/education_centre.php?section=video&lang=1).

The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, called on all members of the public to take part in climate action on World Environment Day 2022. "Climate change brings about more frequent and intense extreme weather events around the world. All sectors of the community should work together to implement carbon reduction measures and promote low-carbon transformation. Achieving carbon neutrality before 2050 is extremely challenging and requires the participation of the entire community. Members of the public can contribute by practising a low-carbon lifestyle through energy saving, consuming a low-carbon diet, and practising green mobility, waste reduction and recycling, etc in their daily lives," Mr Wong said.

The ENB also updated the Low Carbon Living Calculator today. More interactive elements and tips on low-carbon living have been added to the newly introduced mobile version. The ENB launched the Low Carbon Living Calculator in April 2018 to help members of the public assess their individual carbon emissions in respect of clothing, food, living and travel, and understand how they may further transition to a low-carbon lifestyle. The number of users has reached 54 000. Members of the public can access the updated Low Carbon Living Calculator through the link: www.carboncalculator.gov.hk/en.

The Chief Executive announced in the 2020 and 2021 Policy Addresses respectively that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050, and will pursue the target to reduce Hong Kong's carbon emissions by 50 per cent before 2035 as compared to the 2005 level. To lead Hong Kong towards the goal of carbon neutrality, the Government announced in 2021 the Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050. The plan set out the vision of "Zero-carbon Emissions‧Liveable City‧Sustainable Development", and outlined four major decarbonisation strategies and measures, namely net-zero electricity generation, energy saving and green buildings, green transport and waste reduction. The Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050 and its leaflet are available at the Climate Ready website (www.climateready.gov.hk/?lang=1).
