LCSD to present "Jazz Up" Series: "Hong Kong Jazz Generations" concert in June
******************************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present the concert "Hong Kong Jazz Generations" in June, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) as well as the 60th anniversary of Hong Kong City Hall through intergenerational jazz power, and also raising the curtain for this year's "Jazz Up" Series. Pianist Ted Lo and guitarist Eugene Pao, both renowned Hong Kong jazz musicians, will be joined by up-and-coming jazz players to showcase the versatility of jazz music in a mutually inspiring ambiance during the concert. This programme is under the exclusive sponsorship of The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), and is one of the many initiatives supported by HKJC's approved donation of HK$630 million to the Government of the HKSAR to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.

Ted Lo will join a number of young pianists for piano duo performances in the opening half of the concert. The participating pianists include Patrick Lui, Bowen Li, Joyce Cheung and Daniel Chu. In the second half of the programme, Eugene Pao and young guitarists including Teriver Cheung, Alan Kwan and Wilson Lam will perform jazz classics like "Song for Bilbao", "Bernie's Tune" and "Made in France". For the finale, the two iconic figures will perform together with the young jazz musicians, drawing the concert to a perfect ending.

Lo and Pao are both first-rate jazz players who have been the driving force behind the burgeoning Hong Kong jazz scene since the 1980s. Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Lo started his career as a jazz pianist in New York, where he performed jazz gigs and recorded with numerous renowned artists. Since returning to Hong Kong, he has developed his diversified music career and has contributed to all areas of the local music industry.

Being the first local jazz artist to sign with major international labels, Pao has been at the forefront of promoting jazz in the territory through his performances and recordings over the years and has performed at various international jazz festivals.
