New Director of Home Affairs distributes anti-epidemic service bags to grassroots families in Yau Ma Tei (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The new Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Alice Cheung, together with volunteer groups today (April 6) distributed anti-epidemic service bags to grassroots families in an old building in Yau Ma Tei and visited a household to learn about the problems encountered by the elderly under the epidemic and the support they need. The Deputy Director of Home Affairs, Miss Vega Wong and the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mr Edward Yu, also joined the distribution work.

All District Offices have since April 2 been distributing anti-epidemic service bags to households of "three-nil" buildings and grassroots families door-to-door through civil servants and volunteers. Although there are relatively more "three-nil" buildings and grassroots families in Yau Tsim Mong, with the active participation of district organisations and volunteers from different sectors (including enterprises, performing arts sector and ethnic minorities), the Yau Tsim Mong District Office completed all door-to-door distribution work today.

As at 6pm today, the District Offices have distributed a total of around 3 000 000 anti-epidemic service bags through different channels, among which about 129 000 bags were distributed to grassroots families door-to-door by over 13 000 (by man-days) volunteers and a number of civil servant teams. From April 2 to now, the distribution work of anti-epidemic service bags have almost completed, earlier than the original target which was scheduled for completion within seven days.

The 18 District Offices will set up 89 anti-epidemic service bag distribution points starting from tomorrow (April 7) for collection of anti-epidemic service bags by members of the public who cannot receive the bags which have been distributed to households since April 2. In addition, to facilitate members of the public to conduct rapid antigen test (RAT) daily from April 8 to 10 on a voluntary basis, the 18 District Offices will also provide RAT kits at each distribution point on April 7 and 8 for collection by people in need, and the opening hours of most distribution points will be extended to 9pm on these two days.

Mrs Cheung calls on members of the public to do self-testing every day on April 8, 9 and 10 using the RAT kits in the anti-epidemic service bags and report any positive cases, in the hope of identifying infected persons early for appropriate follow-up and cutting transmission chains in the community as quickly as possible. She calls for concerted efforts by the community to fight the epidemic.
