Draft URA Shantung Street/Thistle Street Development Scheme Plan approved
*************************************************************************
The Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft Urban Renewal Authority (URA) Shantung Street/Thistle Street Development Scheme Plan (DSP).

"The approved DSP provides a statutory land use planning framework to guide the implementation of the URA Shantung Street/Thistle Street Development Scheme," a spokesman for the Town Planning Board said today (February 18).

The development scheme area covers about 2 796 square metres. The area is in an L-shape broadly bounded by Thistle Street to the east, Shantung Street to the south, Ferry Street to the west and Nelson Street to the north. It involves part of the existing Thistle Street Rest Garden of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, two clusters of tenement buildings, a government lane and the surrounding public pavement.

The area is mainly zoned "Residential (Group A)" ("R(A)") with a portion of area shown as "Road". The "R(A)" zone is intended primarily for a high-density residential development. Commercial uses are always permitted on the lowest three floors of a building or in the purpose-designed non-domestic portion of a building connecting to a sunken plaza.

The approved DSP No. S/K3/URA4/2 is available for public inspection during office hours at (i) the Secretariat of the Town Planning Board, (ii) the Planning Enquiry Counters, (iii) the Tsuen Wan and West Kowloon District Planning Office and (iv) the Yau Tsim Mong District Office.

Copies of the approved plan are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. The electronic version of the plan can be viewed at the Town Planning Board's website (www.info.gov.hk/tpb).
