Hospital Authority announces eight preliminary positive patient cases detected via admission screening or testing

The Hospital Authority today (February 12) announced the following preliminary positive COVID-19 patient cases detected via admission screening or testing:
A 64-year-old male patient was admitted to surgical ward of Yan Chai Hospital (YCH) on February 7 due to abdominal pain. He tested negative during an admission screening and was discharged on February 8 after treated. YCH was informed on February 11 that the deep throat saliva test result of the patient conducted on February 10 was positive. The hospital’s infection control team has conducted contact tracing accordingly. Eight patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were classified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
In addition, a 72-year-old male patient was admitted to a medical ward of YCH on February 10 from a residential care home for the elderly. The patient tested preliminarily positive yesterday. He is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital’s infection control team has conducted contact tracing accordingly. Six patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were classified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 72-year-old female patient in a neurosurgical ward of Kwong Wah Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Fourteen patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 63-year-old male patient in a medical ward of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening on February 10. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Seven patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. In addition, a 39-year-old female patient in an obstetric and gynaecology ward tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Four patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 58-years-old male patient in a medical ward of Caritas Medical Cente tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Seven patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine.
A 96-year-old male patient in an orthopaedics and traumatology ward of Tuen Mun Hospital tested preliminarily positive during an admission screening yesterday. The patient is being treated under isolation and is in stable condition. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Six patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and will be isolated for quarantine. Another patient care assistant who was in charge of patient’s feeding was also identified as close contact and required quarantine.
A 38-year-old male patient was admitted to medical ward of Ruttonjee Hospital on February 11 due to dizziness and discharged on the same day. His positive result for the admission screening test yesterday was available after discharge. The hospital's infection control team has conducted contact tracing. Six patients who stayed with the patient concerned in the same cubicle were identified as close contacts and have been isolated for quarantine. A nurse and another patient care assistant who had not equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment when the patient was vomiting were also identified as close contacts and required quarantine.
Thorough cleansing and disinfection have been performed in the affected areas by the hospitals. The hospitals will continue to communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest situation.
