Staff of CHP at Hong Kong International Airport's Temporary Specimen Collection Centre confirmed to be case tested preliminarily positive for SARS-CoV-2 virus

     The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (February 7) said that a staff member who works at the Temporary Specimen Collection Centre 1 at Hong Kong International Airport was confirmed to be a case tested preliminarily positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
 
     The staff concerned is responsible for implementing quarantine measures for inbound travellers. He was not on duty from January 31 to February 2 and last performed duties on February 3 but he did not have contact with any inbound travellers that day. His COVID-19 test results on February 2 and 3 were both negative. Epidemiological investigation revealed that his family member whom he had close contact with was confirmed to be a case tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus on February 5. His sample collected on the same day tested preliminarily positive and he developed symptoms yesterday (February 6).
 
     He wore appropriate personal protective equipment while performing duties and properly maintained social distancing with people he had contacted.
 
     The CHP's epidemiological investigations is ongoing. Thorough cleaning and disinfection have been conducted at the concerned workplace. Arrangements have also been made for relevant colleagues working with the staff to work from home and they will undergo COVID-19 testing.
