"Legends of Lion Dance" exhibition showcases traditional Hong Kong crafts, cinema and cultural heritage in Belgium (with photo)
******************************************************************************************
The sixth edition of the "Legends of Lion Dance" exhibition, which showcases Hong Kong's cultural heritage, crafts and Chinese New Year traditions, is back to Belgium bigger this year. Held in the port city of Antwerp, Belgium, from January 22 to February 12 (Antwerp time), the exhibition contains new elements to promote more aspects of Hong Kong, such as its cinema and the West Kowloon Cultural District.

With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) and the Belgium-Hong Kong Society, Asian Events Tofoe, a non-profit-making organisation established by Hong Kong second-generation community members in Antwerp, is presenting around 15 unique embroidered lion heads made in Hong Kong. Visitors can learn about how lion heads are made, the meaning of lion dancing and discover traditional Chinese musical instruments, Cantonese opera and traditional dishes.

A Hong Kong film night was organised for the first time in the exhibition with the screening of "The Way We Keep Dancing" on February 3. Apart from the exhibition and film screening, the organiser is holding a series of workshops to promote Chinese culture.

Speaking before the film screening, the Acting Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Henry Tsoi, encouraged guests to explore Hong Kong's rich cultural heritage by visiting the exhibition, noting that the city has preserved 480 listed items of intangible cultural heritage, wishing they can be passed on to future generations.

Hong Kong is a truly cosmopolitan city of vibrancy and cultural diversity where East meets West. This will definitely offer a unique experience of the blend of Chinese and Western cultures and a fruitful cultural journey for locals and visitors.

"After the opening of M+ last November, we look forward to the opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum later this year. The Hong Kong Palace Museum will display treasures from the collections of the famous Palace Museum in Beijing and advance the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture," Mr Tsoi said.

The first "Legends of Lion Dance" exhibition was held in Antwerp in 2017. The current edition is being held until February 12 at Antwerp's main public library, the Bibliotheek Permeke.
