Agriculture Hall to reopen tomorrow after renovation (with photos)
******************************************************************
The Agriculture Hall of the Lions Nature Education Centre at Tsiu Hang, Sai Kung, will reopen tomorrow (December 22) upon completion of its revamping.

"The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) planned the revamp of the Agriculture Hall last year. The newly designed interactive exhibits and games aim to stimulate students' interest in agricultural science. Under the theme of 'Food and Agricultural Education', the Hall integrates the food in our daily life with local agricultural production, which enhances learning effectiveness, and also helps promote the local agricultural industry," a spokesman for the AFCD said.

The AFCD spokesman said that the Farmily - Ricey and Beany, two cute mascots of the Agriculture Hall - would guide visitors around the Hall and introduce the development of local agriculture and its technology application as well as its diversity and sustainability.

The Agriculture Hall features models of local premium vegetable and fruit crops as well as insects, simulated organic farms and major projection and motion sensing games. Among these, "Story of a seed" showcases the whole process of tomato planting (including sowing seeds, growth of seedlings and harvesting) step by step to visitors by using a hologram technique. The Hall also provides information on science education for kindergartens as well as primary and secondary schools.

In addition, through exhibits of indoor vertical hydroponic farming and videos of agricultural machinery, the Hall also demonstrates how the modernisation of local agriculture has made better use of land and achieved manpower minimisation through farm mechanisation. It is hoped that the Hall will kindle the new generation's imagination on the development of local agriculture with a view to attracting more people to the local agricultural industry.
