Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum to hold fun day this Saturday
***************************************************
The Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum (SYSM) will hold a fun day this Saturday (December 11). Offering a wide array of activities, the event aims to enable visitors to learn more about Dr Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary journey as well the museum. Members of the public are invited to participate and admission is free.

Programmes include "Quick Sketch x Dr Sun Yat-sen", "Box Presentation: SYSM Gift Box-making Workshop" and "'Bee' Friendly - Making a Honey Lipstick". Prior registrations can be made for some of the programmes. Members of the public can visit the museum's website (hk.drsunyatsen.museum/en_US/web/sysm/fun_day_2021.html) for more details.

The SYSM, located at 7 Castle Road, Mid-Levels, Central, was originally the residence of local businessman Mr Ho Kom-tong; the Kom Tong Hall was built in 1914. It is one of the very few surviving structures in Hong Kong dating back to the early 20th century. Being a typical Edwardian classical building with grand interior decorations, the colourful stained-glass windows and teak wood staircase railings are in good condition. This building's facade is surrounded by Greek-style granite columns, and the balcony wall tiles on each floor have their own style. The Kom Tong Hall has been listed as a declared monument in Hong Kong since 2010. A lecture entitled "Present Life of Kom Tong Hall - the Founding of the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum" will be held from 3pm to 5pm on the fun day at the Special Exhibition Gallery, UG/F of the museum. The Adjunct Professor of the Department of History, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Joseph Ting, will share the process of converting the Kom Tong Hall into the SYSM 15 years ago. The lecture will be conducted in Cantonese. Simultaneous online live-streaming will also be available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_oXXRWJecE.

Visitors can also take the opportunity to visit the museum's permanent exhibition "Hong Kong in Dr Sun Yat-sen's Time" and a new exhibition "The Four Great Outlaws - Reshaping the Memories of the Revolution through a Photo". This exhibition will enable visitors to learn more about the life and career of Dr Sun Yat-sen and his relationship with Hong Kong as well as the dissimilar paths of the "Four Great Outlaws" (namely Dr Sun Yat-sen, Chan Siu-pak, Yau Lit and Yeung Hok-ling) through valuable artefacts and historical pictures.

The fun day, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and organised by the SYSM, will be held from 10am to 7pm. For details, please visit the website at hk.drsunyatsen.museum/en_US/web/sysm/fun_day_2021.html or call 3580 6780.

All persons are required to use the "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application to scan the venue QR code before they are allowed to enter offices and venues under the LCSD, except for exempted persons who are aged below 12 or aged 65 or above and those with disabilities that render use of the app difficult. Exemptions will also be granted to individual persons depending on the actual circumstances. All exempted persons are required to complete a record form to register their personal particulars and the date and time of their visit. As it will take time to verify personal particulars of exempted persons under the arrangement, their waiting time for using public services or entering the relevant venues may be lengthened. The LCSD suggests that members of the public arrive early, and appeals for their understanding. The department also encourages the exempted persons to use the app as far as possible to save time.
