Hospital Authority strengthens collaboration with University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (with photo)
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) has extended its collaboration with the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital (HKU-SZH) to strengthen co-operation in various areas such as exchange visits and professional trainings. The HA also supports the healthcare programmes carried out by the Food and Health Bureau and HKU-SZH.

The HA Chief Executive, Dr Tony Ko, and the HKU-SZH Chief Executive, Professor Lo Chung-mau, signed a new three-year agreement on October 4 to foster exchanges and collaboration on hospital management and healthcare services.

"We should seize the opportunities of the National 14th Five-Year Plan and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), to strengthen healthcare services exchange and collaboration between Shenzhen and Hong Kong for patients' well-being. The HA will continue to maintain close contact with HKU-SZH and explore strengthening exchanges and fostering development of the healthcare sector between the two places," the HA Chairman, Mr Henry Fan, said at the signing ceremony.

The HA supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and relevant departments of Guangdong Province on the implementation of the measure of using Hong Kong registered drugs and medical devices used in Hong Kong public hospitals with urgent clinical uses in designated healthcare institutions operating in the GBA. The HA has provided relevant information of medical devices used in Hong Kong public hospitals to the HKSAR Government for assisting Guangdong Province in approving the devices to be used in designated healthcare institutions operating in the GBA. HKU-SZH is the pilot hospital of this measure and one of the first batches of designated healthcare institutions. The HA will continue to support the implementation of the measure in areas where appropriate.

"Patients who were unable to return to Hong Kong were subsidised by the HKSAR Government to receive follow-up consultations in HKU-SZH since the end of last year. This is the best example to demonstrate the strengthening of healthcare services co-operation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. We look forward to exploring more cross-border healthcare co-operation in the future," Mr Fan added.

"Shenzhen and Hong Kong have their own characteristics and excellent features in their healthcare systems, operations and management models. Complementary development and experience sharing will help foster the quality of healthcare services on both sides. Apart from exchange visits and professional trainings, HKU-SZH hopes to explore more cross-border healthcare co—operation with the HA in the future so as to jointly contribute to the development of healthcare services in the GBA," Professor Lo said.

The HA and HKU-SZH signed the first collaboration agreement in 2015, with renewals signed in 2017 and 2019. Exchanges and collaborations in healthcare management and clinical services have been carried out in the past six years to foster experience sharing and learning.
