"SciPOP" Science Demonstration Contest 2022 to open for enrolment
The Hong Kong Science Museum and the Education Bureau will jointly organise the "SciPOP" Science Demonstration Contest 2022 to provide a platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge of science and talent in science communication. The contest is open for enrolment between October 4 and November 25.
The contest aims to foster the pursuit of scientific knowledge among local secondary school students and enhance students' presentation and communication skills. Contestants will be required to determine their own demonstration topic under the theme "Earth Science" and conduct a science demonstration with the use of props or hands-on experiments.
Contestants must be full-time Hong Kong secondary school students aged 15 or above (as at December 31, 2021) and join the competition on a school basis. Each school can nominate a maximum of two teams and each team shall comprise two to four students.
To enhance contestants' understanding on the competition details and knowledge related to "Earth Science", a briefing session will be held at the Museum's lecture hall on October 5 (Tuesday) at 4.30pm. Simultaneous live streaming through the competition website will also be available. Teachers and students interested in attending the briefing session in person are required to email the name of the school and the number of participants to scipop@hk.science.museum on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will be a competition champion, a first runner-up, a second runner-up and three merit prizes. The top three winning teams will be entitled to join the Young Scientists Study Tour 2022 free of charge, where they will have a field trip themed on geology. Individual finalists will also be selected to join the tour according to their performance in the group interview.
