Government finishes joint operation to clear miscellaneous articles in subway connecting to Hong Kong Cultural Centre (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The Government had received a number of complaints from the Yau Tsim Mong South Area Committee and a number of citizens about the piling up of miscellaneous articles in the subway at Salisbury Road near the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The articles obstructed the passageway and produced an unpleasant smell, affecting public hygiene.

In view of the complaints, the Yau Tsim Mong District Management Committee placed notices on the walls of the subway on September 2 to inform the public that miscellaneous articles left there would be cleared and disposed of 14 days after the date of posting of the notice (i.e. on September 16). Any person in possession of such articles had to remove them before today (September 16).

Apart from posting notices, the Government also arranged outreach visits to the area on many evenings. The visits were held to remind street sleepers at that location about the joint operation, and identify their welfare needs for the provision of services as required. The joint operation was targeted at miscellaneous articles, not street sleepers.

The Government thanked the parties concerned for their co-operation in taking away all articles from the location before the operation. The relevant departments cleaned the walls and floor of the subway today.

To avoid obstruction and environmental hygiene problems, the Government appeals to all relevant persons again not to place or keep objects or articles in the subway. Otherwise, the Government will carry out clearance operations.
