Fatal traffic accident in Tai Po

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po today (August 22) in which a 59-year-old man died.

     At about 11.21am, a taxi driven by a 63-year-old man was travelling along Kwong Fuk Road westbound. When approaching near 102 Kwong Fuk Road, it reportedly knocked down nine pedestrians who were crossing the road.

     Sustaining serious head injuries, a 59-year-old man was certified at scene. Besides, sustaining multiple injuries, a 63-year-old woman was sent to North District Hospital in unconscious state; sustaining multiple injuries, a 51-year-old woman was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state; sustaining multiple injuries, a 37-year-old woman was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and later regained consciousness.     

     The other four, including one man, two women and a boy, aged from 4 to 70, were slightly injured and sent to hospital. A 49-year-old man refused medical attention.

     The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries. He felt unwell and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in conscious state.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
