The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (August 22) attended a public consultation session for the 2021 Policy Address to listen to views and suggestions of members of the public on the upcoming Policy Address directly. The activity was held at the Seminar Hall of the Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District and broadcast live by Radio Television Hong Kong. More than 100 people from various districts participated in person or online, including members of ethnic minorities.

More than 30 members of the public spoke at the two-hour public consultation session. Their views covered a wide range of areas, including land and housing, arts and culture, district development and transport, national education and arrangement for cross-boundary students. Participants also gave various suggestions, including ways to enhance support for women, children, youth, the elderly, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities.

"I thank members of the public for taking the time on a holiday to participate in the public consultation session for the Policy Address to give their views. With the implementation of the National Security Law and improvements to the electoral system, Hong Kong's developments have been put back on the right track with the support of the Central Authorities and people are full of hope for the future. I encourage members of the public to continue to give their views to help me formulate the upcoming Policy Address to map out the future of Hong Kong and rebuild hope and confidence of the people," Mrs Lam said.

Since launching the public consultation exercise for the 2021 Policy Address on July 6, Mrs Lam has hosted 25 consultation sessions in different formats to date. Topics ranged from people's livelihoods and welfare, finance, commerce and trade, aviation, legal services, innovation and technology, education and labour to land and housing, medical and health services, sports, arts and culture. She met with the stakeholders of various sectors, including legislators, chambers of commerce, professional bodies, non-government bodies and the general public to listen to their views on the upcoming Policy Address.
