CE joins Sport For All Day 2021 to share fun of sports (with photos/video)

     The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, joined Sport For All Day 2021 at Che Kung Temple Sports Centre today (August 1) to share the fun of sports with members of the public, and show support for Hong Kong athletes to strive for excellence in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
      
     Sport For All Day 2021 is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Apart from opening various leisure facilities for free use by the public, free recreation and sports programmes are being held at designated sports centres in 18 districts, including play-in activities of Olympic sports such as fencing, badminton, table-tennis and cycling in support of the Tokyo Olympics. Sports demonstrations were also webcast live to encourage all people to keep exercising in a fun way.   
      
     Accompanying the Chief Executive to join the event were the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Caspar Tsui; the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Cherry Tse; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu; the District Officer (Sha Tin), Miss Carol Or; tenpin bowling athlete Wu Siu-hong, and triathlon athlete Choi Yan-yin.
      
     Mrs Lam first watched dance demonstrations to experience the vigour of dance sport along with the public in the event. Dance is the focal sport of Sport For All Day 2021, which is suitable for people of all ages to participate.
      
     The guests then took part in boccia together with athletes with disabilities, and officiated at the start of a cycling competition. They also joined dodgebee games and a resistance band exercise, and watched the participation sessions of pickleball, floor curling, korfball and indoor rowing.
      
     Eight principal officials joined the recreation and sports activities held at sports centres in various districts today in support of Sport For All Day 2021, including the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr John Lee; the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing; the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong; the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan; the Secretary for Development, Mr Michael Wong; the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Alfred Sit; the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai and the Secretary for Security, Mr Tang Ping-keung.
      
     Sport For All Day aims to promote the message "Stay Active, Healthy and Happy!" and to encourage members of the public to foster the habit of exercising for at least half an hour a day. Demonstrations of dance and other sports were featured in a live webcast via the event dedicated website and the "LCSD Plusss" Facebook page today to enable the public to take part in healthy exercise at home.
      
     Sport For All Day 2021 is co-organised and supported by the Department of Health; the Sports Medicine Team of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Sports Medicine and Health Science Alumni Association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China; the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled; the Hong Kong DanceSport Association, and CLP Power Hong Kong Limited.
