Talk on national security organised by CSB (with photos)
********************************************************
The first anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (NSL) is approaching. The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) today (June 29) organised a seminar on national security at the Central Government Offices, and Professor Wang Zhenmin of the School of Law of Tsinghua University delivered a talk on the NSL via video conferencing. He also shared with senior civil servants attending the seminar his views on the implementation of the NSL in the past year and in the future.

The seminar was attended by about 120 senior civil servants, including Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, directorate officers of the CSB and officers from the Training Officer Grade.

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Patrick Nip, said in the seminar, "The civil service is the backbone of the HKSAR Government, and constitutes an important component of the political structure of the HKSAR. Civil servants should have a good grasp of the legislative purpose and main content of the NSL, especially in areas related to the work of their departments. They should enhance their sensitivity and be devoted to implementing the NSL so as to effectively prevent, suppress and impose punishment for any act or activity endangering national security, and to act in accord fully with the HKSAR Government in discharging its duty of safeguarding national security."

In April this year, the CSB also held a video talk on the NSL for all civil servants to enhance their awareness of safeguarding national security. The video talk has been incorporated as part of induction training for civil servants at certain ranks.
