LegCo Subcommittee visits subdivided units and transitional housing projects (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Issues Relating to Transitional Housing and Subdivided Units conducted a visit to subdivided units and transitional housing projects today (May 20) to better understand the housing needs of the residents living in the subdivided units.
      
     Accompanied by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan and the Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, Dr Raymond So, Members visited the families living in the subdivided units (SDUs) at Temple Street in Yau Ma Tei and Kowloon City Road in To Kwa Wan, to learn about their living conditions and their views about legislation for tenancy control of SDUs.  Members then toured the transitional housing project at Sung Wong Toi Road in To Kwa Wan to understand the latest progress of the project. The project was subsidized by the Community Care Fund and is operated by Lok Sin Tong (LST), providing about 110 flats.
      
     Members also visited the transitional housing project at LST Primary School in Kowloon City which was converted from school premises into transitional housing. Members took the opportunity to chat with the residents to learn more about their daily lives and housing needs. Members were briefed by representatives of the government and LST on the experience of operating transitional housing project.
      
     Members participating in the visit were the Subcommittee Chairman, Mr Vincent Cheng; the Deputy Chairman, Mr Wilson Or; Subcommittee members Mrs Regina Ip, Mr Shiu Ka-fai and Mr Tony Tse; as well as non-Subcommittee members Ms Starry Lee, Mr Michael Tien, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Ms Elizabeth Quat, Mr Chan Chun-ying and Mr Kenneth Lau.
