Yim Tin Tsai Arts Festival goes virtual (With photos)
*****************************************************
The Tourism Commission will stage the Yim Tin Tsai Arts Festival from February 12 (Lunar New Year’s Day) to March 11. In view of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Arts Festival will go virtual. Members of the public can stay at home and enjoy Yim Tin Tsai’s scenery and artworks through an online platform. No new artworks will be openly displayed on the island for now.

As a three-year pilot scheme, the Arts Festival bears three key concepts, namely “Sky, Earth and Human”. Through collaboration amongst local and overseas artists, youngsters and Yim Tin Tsai villagers, the Arts Festival has turned Yim Tin Tsai into an “open museum”, bringing a new and unique experience that integrates arts, religion, culture, heritage and green elements for participants.

The first event of the series, “Yim Tin Tsai Arts Festival 2019”, was held at the end of 2019 with overwhelming support from participants. Continuing with the concept of “Sky”, adopted at the first event, the theme of “Earth” will be featured in the upcoming Arts Festival, showcasing the unique natural landscape and the story of Yim Tin Tsai in the form of art. Members of the public can enjoy the island’s scenic spots and artworks through a 360-degree virtual reality function available on the official website of the Arts Festival. Participants can further understand stories about the island’s scenic spots and the creative concept of the artworks through audio guides on the website.

During the event period, a series of online programmes, including online guided tours, Hakka teacake-making workshops, arts workshops and themed talks, will be organised to provide participants with a virtual opportunity to experience the artistic atmosphere of Yim Tin Tsai and understand its distinctive history and culture. Those who are interested in taking part in these online programmes are invited to register on the official website from February 10.
