TD appeals to public for early submission of licensing applications
*******************************************************************
The Transport Department (TD) today (February 2) reminded holders of driving and vehicle licenses that as the Lunar New Year holiday is approaching, they should check the validity dates of their licenses. Members of the public in need should submit licensing applications as early as possible.

To align with the Government's announcement on the latest arrangements for provision of public services during the epidemic, the TD is currently providing counter services for applications submitted by applicants with online appointments only and has deployed additional manpower to process applications submitted via drop-in boxes, by post, or online. The Licensing Offices at Admiralty, Cheung Sha Wan, Kwun Tong and Sha Tin will continue to suspend walk-in counter services. The TD anticipates that before and after the Lunar New Year holiday, the Licensing Offices may take a longer time to process various types of licensing applications. To avoid unnecessary delay, the public should submit applications three to four weeks before the expiry dates as far as practicable.

The TD appeals to members of the public in need to use the online appointment services as far as possible. Those who cannot make a prior appointment may submit applications by post or online, or via the drop-in boxes placed at the Licensing Offices from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday.

Licensing Offices in general process licensing applications in the order of date of receipt and accord priority as much as practicable to process renewal licensing applications for which the validity period has expired or is about to expire. If the vehicle licences of the applicants are about to expire or there are any special reasons requiring early renewals, applicants can mark on the envelope the vehicle registration marks and the expiry dates of the vehicle licences or state the reason concerned, and leave contact telephone numbers on the application forms. This is to assist the staff of the Licensing Offices to identify and follow up on applications that require urgent attention.
