Employee fined for violation of safety legislation
**************************************************
A worker was fined $8,000 at Shatin Magistrates' Courts today (December 18) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance (OSHO). The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department (LD).

The prosecution was taken out arising from the investigation of a fatal accident that happened on February 10, 2019, on a village road, Nam Wa Po, in Tai Po. In the course of investigation, the worker refused to comply with a request made by occupational safety officers (OSOs) of the LD to provide information related to the accident.

The LD's spokesman said, "We will not tolerate any offence of failing to comply with a requirement made by an OSO under the OSHO, and will spare no efforts in prosecuting persons who defy the law."
