LCSD Edutainment Channel launches platform of virtual exhibitions for public
****************************************************************************
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's (LCSD) Edutainment Channel (www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/edutainment-channel.html), an one-stop online platform offering informative and learning materials on culture and leisure, will provide weekly museum virtual guided tours and lectures starting from tomorrow (December 12). Curators of museums will lead tours of thematic exhibitions and host seminars. Members of the public can broaden their horizons by visiting these exhibitions and events virtually via the "vis-à-vis +01" series (www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/edutainment-channel-details.html?cat=869) of the Edutainment Channel while staying at home to fight against the epidemic.

The first museum virtual guided tour under the "vis-à-vis +01" series will be "Science Online Tour @ 'Fighting Viruses - Innovations to Safeguard Our Health'". The online tour for the thematic exhibition will be guided by curators of the Hong Kong Science Museum. Curators will explain basic science knowledge of the novel coronavirus in an engaging way. Research and scientific achievements in combating the epidemic led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will be introduced and the tour will reveal how local research and development teams are making use of innovative technology to safeguard public health. Audience members please register on the webpage of "vis-à-vis +01" for the event.

Hong Kong is a very small place but it is home to a variety of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items which feature their own characteristics and are closely related to the daily lives of local people. The ICH Office will host lectures on "Explore Intangible Cultural Heritage from Old Photographs" and "The Culture of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Herbs for Herbal Tea" tomorrow and this Sunday (December 13) respectively. These lectures introduce ICH items and the history of Hong Kong to audiences through viewing old local photographs, and explain the Chinese medicine concept of "zhi wei bing" (disease prevention), as well as the types of Chinese herbs used in herbal tea and their functions. Audience members can join the lectures on the webpage of "vis-à-vis +01", no registration is needed.

"Vis-à-vis +01" series will provide an online tour of the main exhibition of the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) on December 20 (Sunday). Since its opening, "Botticelli and His Times - Masterworks from the Uffizi", which is jointly organised by the HKMoA and the Uffizi Galleries from Italy, has been well-received by the public. By joining the online guided tour by the HKMoA's curators, participants can appreciate treasures from the Uffizi Galleries and explore the art and culture of the Renaissance while staying at home. Details of the registration will be announced in webpage of "vis-à-vis +01".

The LCSD's Edutainment Channel combines education with entertainment. The "vis-à-vis +01" series of the channel will also launch Online Interactive Sports Training Programmes starting from January. The programmes will offer courses covering various sports and will emphasise interaction in training to enable participants to have more in-depth exchanges of experiences via online video. Please visit the website (www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/visavis) for details and enrolment.

The new channel also features the 101 Academy. By way of online videos to be uploaded every Friday, the academy aimed at introducing basic knowledge on culture, arts, science, sports, horticulture and animals for deepening the public's understanding and interest in various fields. Please visit the webpage of the 101 Academy at www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/edutainment-channel-more.html?cat=826 for details.

Contents of the LCSD's Edutainment Channel will be updated regularly to keep people abreast of the latest developments in arts, culture, recreation and sports. The public is most welcome to visit the channel.
