S for IT speaks on LeaveHomeSafe mobile app (with video)
********************************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Alfred Sit, at a media session after attending a radio programme today (November 14):

Reporter: Mr Sit, how do you convince the public that no data will be stored in government and also do you have a target on how many downloads?

Secretary for Innovation and Technology: We understand very well that our people have concern on data privacy, so we have put much emphasis on developing this app. We have three steps in protecting data privacy. First, the app is voluntary participation, people can download the app at their own discretion. When they go to some premises, it is also up to them, at their own discretion to scan the QR code or not. Also, all the data are contained in their own phones, there is no central system to control or store the movement or the visiting data of our people. So three steps, voluntary download, voluntary scanning QR code and also all the data is contained in their own phones. There is no central system to record all the data, and for all the data contained in their phones, they are going to be erased automatically in 31 days.

Reporter: Any target about download?

Secretary for Innovation and Technology: We don't set any target because it is all voluntary arrangement, and we are looking forward to people's support, but we don't set any target.
