******************************************************************************************
The Task Force for the Study on Tenancy Control of Subdivided Units (Task Force) hosted a public forum at Mong Kok Community Hall this afternoon (November 1). Under the constraints of the pandemic preventive measures, around 100 persons attended the forum, including tenants, concern groups and District Council members, who eagerly shared their views. The Task Force thanked for their active participation notwithstanding the pandemic.

The Chairman of the Task Force, Dr William Leung Wing-cheung, said, "Tenancy control of subdivided units (SDU) covers a wide range of issues. In addition to the definition of SDU and rental-related matters, it also involves tenancy agreement, water and electricity charges, maintenance responsibilities, public hygiene, SDU structure and safety as well as issues like the regulatory mechanism. We must scrutinise carefully and thoroughly."

Dr Leung added that the Task Force will look into the pros and cons of SDU tenancy control and consider the issues comprehensively from social factual circumstances, economic as well as legal aspects. The Task Force plans to submit its recommendations to the Government for consideration by the middle of next year.

The 13-member Task Force was set up in April 2020 for a term of 18 months. It is tasked to study the feasibility of, and options for, tenancy control of SDU. Through paying visits to SDU tenants, meeting with concern groups to listen to their views, as well as appointing independent professional institutions to conduct thematic researches which would enhance the breadth and depth of the study, the Task Force hopes to come up with holistic and objective recommendations and solutions for the Government's consideration.

The Task Force held an online public forum on October 3 in which members of the public expressed their views via calling the hotline. The online public forum recorded a total of page views of more than 2 600 to date. The public is welcomed to continue to provide their views to the Task Force by sending SMS, WhatsApp or WeChat messages to the hotline 6975 2040 after the public forum today.
