LCSD's Online Resources Centre adds new features

Co-organised by the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Office and the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, "Hong Kong ICH Promotional Videos Project" features 360-degree virtual reality videos to introduce the bamboo theatre building technique, the Tai O Dragon Boat Water Parade, and the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance of the Mid-Autumn Festival, enabling the public to learn more about Hong Kong's ICH. Through the video "Paper Crafting Technique" produced by the ICH Office, the public can also appreciate the superb craftsmanship of a 150-metre-long "auspicious coiling dragon" made to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival at Victoria Park in 2019.
Produced by the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA), "Little Heads · Big Discovery" is a series of parent-child art enlightenment resources for children aged 2 to 6. Art is an important life experience during child development, and art education can open up multiple intelligences in children and lay solid groundwork for holistic development. Parents and children are invited to enter the vibrant and varied world of art through entertaining ways of learning from "HKMoA Alphabet Cards" and "Look and Find Hand in Hand with Artists", being launched in phases. Children can explore artworks of various times, styles and materials in the museum collections. This unique set of resources also cultivates concentration, aesthetic judgement, exploration, comprehension and expression, which are all-important building blocks of multiple intelligences for little brains.
Produced by the Hong Kong Public Libraries, the five-episode "Voice & Move Parent-child Storytelling" series shares with parents and children storytelling tips on the use of voice, props, facial expressions and body language, transforming one-way storytelling into an interactive learning activity between parents and kids to raise children's interest in reading. The topics of the video series are "Drawing Attention", "Emotions Acting", "Characters Acting", "Body Language" and "Voice & Move Parent-child Drama Show". Drama tutors will further demonstrate the skills through the selected winning entries of the Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese Children's Picture Stories.
As for performing arts, "Jazz Un-cancelled" is an online site-specific project recorded at the Kwai Tsing Theatre. The four-episode project aims to explore music improvisation with surprise elements, integrating different forms of expression (such as meditation and coffee making) with different genres played out in various spaces of the theatre (such as a dressing room, a loading bay and the foyer) to expand the possibilities of staging.
In addition, the five-episode talk series "Talks on Cantonese Opera Libretti and Scripts - From Texts to Performance" is conducted by Sun Kim-long. It aims at enhancing the audience's understanding of the libretti of Cantonese opera. Renowned stars of Cantonese opera have been invited to discuss their experiences in performing and interpreting the libretti of various productions by different playwrights.
"One Song Ten Fingers", one of the online programmes of the WeWeWebWeb Carnival, has a music video "Mortuary Matters", devoted to mortuary makeup artist Lau Tao-yin, who works in an industry full of taboos. Like any ordinary person, Lau leads her own life filled with emotions, stories, and messages that she wants to convey to society.
Turning to horticulture, flower lovers can watch the latest video "Plant Care Tips - Demonstration of Basal Fertilisation and Fertilisation" at the Horticulture Classroom to learn about planting tips through seven steps, namely watering, fertilising, soil aeration, weeding, pruning, pest and disease control and support/protection.
The ORC also features simple and easy-to-learn physical fitness exercise demonstration videos for people of different ages and abilities to maintain a healthy lifestyle by participating in sports activities and fostering the habit of exercising for at least half an hour a day.
The LCSD will continue to enrich the content of the ORC to offer more educational and joyful programmes to the public.
