Appointment to Electoral Affairs Commission

     The Chief Executive has appointed Professor Daniel Shek Tan-lei as a member of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for a term of five years from September 29, 2020, to September 28, 2025. The appointment was gazetted today (September 18).

     "We are pleased that Professor Daniel Shek Tan-lei has accepted the appointment to serve on the EAC. Professor Shek is the Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programme) and Chair Professor of Applied Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His knowledge as well as experience and dedication in public service will be of great help to the EAC in accomplishing its future tasks," a Government spokesman said.

     "We would also like to thank the outgoing member, Professor Fanny Cheung, for her valuable contributions during her years of service," the spokesman said.

     The EAC is an independent statutory body established under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance. Its responsibilities include making recommendations on geographical constituency boundaries, and making regulations, guidelines and arrangements for the registration of electors and the conduct of public elections. The main objective of the EAC is to ensure that public elections are conducted in an open, fair and honest manner.
