Police enhance public understanding by clarifying unfounded information

While Police absolutely respect freedom of speech and freedom of the press, Police also have the responsibility to explain the facts to the public to avoid misunderstanding.
A Police spokesman pointed out that there has been an overwhelming volume of unfounded information circulated in the society over the last few months. Police have been proactive in enhancing its work transparency and repeatedly clarifying various unfounded reports and information.
There was a local Chinese newspaper report today which alleged that the act of Police sending them clarification letters as intimidating. The Police spokesman stressed that the entire purpose of sending clarification letters is to underline the facts, allowing the concerned media organisation to better understand the work and concern of Police. Police have indeed sent letters to other local and overseas media organisations to clarify untrue claims.
Apart from sending letters to media organisations, Police also disseminate information and dismiss unfounded claims through press conferences and press releases, as well as on social media platforms. Police will continue to enhance public understanding of police work and earn their support and trust through various channels.
