LegCo Joint Subcommittee to Monitor the Implementation of the West Kowloon Cultural District Project visits West Kowloon Cultural District (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     At the invitation of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), the Legislative Council (LegCo) Joint Subcommittee to Monitor the Implementation of the West Kowloon Cultural District Project (Joint Subcommittee) visited the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) today (January 13) to better understand the latest development of the WKCD Project.

     Members first visited the Xiqu Centre and received a briefing on the latest progress of the WKCD Project from the Chief Executive Officer of the WKCDA, Mr Duncan Pescod. Members visited the Grand Theatre and the Tea House Theatre in the Xiqu Centre to better understand its operation since its official opening in January last year. Members also took the opportunity to observe a short performance at the Tea House Theatre to gain first-hand experience of performance programmes in the Xiqu Centre.

     With the company of Mr Pescod and representatives of the WKCDA, the Home Affairs Bureau and the Civil Engineering and Development Department, Members also visited the construction sites of the Lyric Theatre Complex, the M+ Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum to see for themselves the construction progress of these venues. 

     Members also visited the performing arts facilities at the "Freespace", including the largest blackbox theatre in Hong Kong "The Box", and the waterfront promenade in the Art Park to learn about the operation and usage of these facilities.

     Members who participated in the visit are the Chairman of the Joint Subcommittee, Mr Jeffrey Lam; Joint Subcommittee members Mr Ma Fung-kwok, Dr Helena Wong and Dr Junius Ho; as well as non-Joint Subcommittee members Mr James To, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Mr Kenneth Leung, Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Dr Cheng Chung-tai.

     The Joint Subcommittee is a subcommittee formed under the LegCo Panel on Development and the LegCo Panel on Home Affairs.
