Registration and Electoral Office responds to media enquiries regarding delivery of ballot boxes and arrangements for counting of votes from dedicated polling stations and special polling stations
******************************************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

In accordance with section 31 (1CA) of the Electoral Affairs Commission (Electoral Procedure) (District Councils) Regulation (Cap. 541F) (Regulation), the Chief Electoral Officer must designate one or more places as a dedicated polling station or dedicated polling stations at which electors in custody are allocated to vote.

In accordance with section 32 of the Regulation, if the polling station designated by the Chief Electoral Officer for a constituency would be difficult of access for persons with a disability, the Chief Electoral Officer must designate one or more polling stations as special polling station or stations to be used for voting by them.

In accordance with section 63A of the Regulation, as there will be no counting of votes inside a dedicated polling station or a special polling station, the Assistant Presiding Officer of the dedicated polling station or the special polling station will deliver the sealed ballot boxes, the sealed packets, and the ballot paper accounts to the main counting station under police escort for counting of votes.

In accordance with section 76(2)(a) of the Regulation, the Presiding Officer of a main counting station must, when counting the votes at the main counting station, mix the ballot papers that have been delivered to the main counting station from the dedicated polling station and/or special polling station, together with the ballot papers in the ballot boxes at the polling station designated as the main counting station.
