Applications open for HKO training course on weather observation

     The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) will hold a weather observation training course in December. Applications are now open and will close on November 21.
 
     The course, which will consist of lectures and weather observation practice, will be taught by experienced meteorological personnel of the HKO. The content will cover basic weather observation techniques and methods, such as the observation and classification of clouds. Lecturers will also introduce details of various weather phenomena and hazards, the interpretation of weather charts, weather radar and satellite pictures, as well as the use of weather observation techniques in weather forecasting. Participants will gain a better understanding of the weather and the appropriate responses to weather changes.
 
     In addition, lecturers will introduce details of weather information on the "MyObservatory" mobile app and the HKO website, and how to make use of the platforms on the Community Weather Observing Scheme (co-win.org/index.php/en or www.facebook.com/icwos) to share weather information.
 
     The course will be made up of two sessions and they will be held from 9.15am to 12.30pm on December 14 and 21 at the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Hong Kong Observatory Headquarters respectively. Both sessions will be conducted in Cantonese. The course fee is $140 per person.
