Injunction of public inspection of 2019 Final Registers of Electors/Voters
**************************************************************************
The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) announced today (October 22) that the arrangement for public inspection of the 2019 Final Registers of Electors/Voters is suspended, until further notice.

The Junior Police Officers' Association (JPOA) has filed a judicial review application seeking an urgent interim injunction to prohibit the Electoral Registration Officer from making the 2019 Final Registers of Electors/Voters available for public inspection and providing relevant particulars to any other persons. The Court of First Instance earlier dismissed the application and the JPOA made an appeal afterwards.

Today, the Court of Appeal allowed the appeal and granted an interim injunction order restraining the REO from arranging for public inspection of the 2019 Final Registers of Electors/Voters, which show the electors' names with their respective principal residential addresses, and restraining the REO from providing extracts of the Final Registers of Electors/Voters or relevant information to members of the public, until the disposal of the appeal. The provision of an extract of the Final Register to a validly nominated candidate pursuant to the Electoral Affairs Commission (Electoral Procedure) (District Councils) Regulation (Cap 541F) is not affected.
