1104 nomination forms for District Council Ordinary Election received by deadline

     A total of 1104 nomination forms for the 2019 District Council Ordinary Election were received by the Returning Officers of the 18 districts at the close of the nomination period at 5pm today (October 17). The two-week nomination period started on October 4.

     62 nomination forms were submitted to the Returning Officers today.

     A total of five nominees have submitted the notice of withdrawal of candidature to the Returning Officers in five districts today. The nominees withdrew their candidatures in Aberdeen Constituency of Southern District, Lam Tin Constituency of Kwun Tong District, San Hui Constituency of Tuen Mun District, Kam To Constituency of Sha Tin District and Cheung Chau Constituency of Islands District. One nominee withdrew her candidature in Po Lai Constituency of Sham Shui Po District on October 15.

     A full list of the validly nominated candidates will be published in the Gazette after the Returning Officers have validated and confirmed the eligibility for candidature of the nominees.

     The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold a briefing for candidates and their agents at the AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau, at 8pm on October 24 (Thursday).
 
     The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, will chair the briefing and brief candidates and their agents on the guidelines on election-related activities, electoral arrangements for the election and the important points to note in running election campaigns. A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. A representative from Hongkong Post will also explain the arrangement and requirements of the free postage service for election mail. Representatives from the Registration and Electoral Office and the Department of Justice will also be present.

     Before the briefing session, the order of appearance of names of candidates on ballot papers and the allocation of designated spots for the display of election advertisements will be determined by drawing of lots.

     For each of the 452 constituencies in the 18 districts across Hong Kong, a poll will be held on November 24 (Sunday) should there be more than one validly nominated candidate in the constituency.
