Transcript of remarks by SEN on pilot subsidy scheme for electric vehicle charging-enabling infrastructure in car parks of private residential buildings
******************************************************************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, on the pilot subsidy scheme for electric vehicle (EV) charging-enabling infrastructure in car parks of private residential buildings at a media session after attending a public function this afternoon (October 15):

Reporter: Do you know of any residential property owners that are already interested in this pilot subsidy scheme and would the Government monitor how this charging scheme goes and how are they going to help the electric car owners in Hong Kong? Thank you.

Secretary for the Environment: I think in the recent years, while looking at the majority of the private electric vehicles, we have heard different opinions about the request for the Government to subsidise the relevant estates to install their EV charging-enabling facilities. Recently, we have also contacted the relevant stakeholders, including EV charging companies, the property management companies and even the owners' associations. I think they are looking forward to receiving support from the Government to provide support. I think the scheme should be welcomed by relevant stakeholders with a view to promoting EV applications in Hong Kong.

Reporter: But is it enough to turn 60 000 car parks to install this kind of facilities and how many of the private residential car parks that you expect by the end of it would have these kind of electric charging facilities?

Secretary for the Environment: As said earlier, with the combination of the two schemes, i.e. one scheme previously based on the GFA (gross floor area) concessions and the new one based on financial subsidy, in three years or so, a quarter of the total relevant car parks will have EV charging-enabling infrastructure representing about 25 per cent. It is a pilot scheme. If the scheme is welcomed in the future, we may consider how to expand the scheme to cover more relevant car parks.
