LegCo Panel on Education continues duty visit in Finland (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Education continued its duty visit in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, yesterday (September 10, Helsinki time).

     The delegation visited the Day Care Centre Franzénia in the morning to gain an understanding of the early childhood education and care system in Finland. Members were briefed by the Head of the Day Care Centre, Ms Tiina Marjoniemi, on the services of the Centre. During the visit, Members were happy to talk to the teachers, parents and children.

     The delegation then visited the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, the largest public library in the city, to learn about its unique architectural design and innovative technology.

     In the afternoon, members of the delegation attended a lunch meeting hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The delegation then visited the Me & MyCity where school children in grades six and nine play various simulated roles in a miniature city to acquire experiences of working life, economy and society.

     The delegation will continue its duty visit in Helsinki today (September 11, Helsinki time). Members will visit the Töölön Upper Secondary School and the Parliament of Finland. They will then depart for Oulu, the largest city in Northern Finland, in the evening.
