Infectious disease cases in Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following announcement today (June 18):
Four patients (aged 60 to 80) in a male surgical ward have been confirmed to be carriers of Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae since May 29. Two patients concerned are still hospitalised and being treated under isolation with stable condition. The remaining two patients have been discharged.
The Hospital Infection Control Team has followed up with the departments concerned and experts of the Centre for Health Protection. The following enhanced infection control measures have already been adopted in the ward:
1. Enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures;
2. Application of stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene of staff, patients and visitors; and
3. Enhanced cleaning and disinfection of the ward.
Furthermore, four patients (aged 16 to 42) in a male Psychiatry ward presented with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms since June 13. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and their test results were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to the established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance. Admission to the ward has also been suspended.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
