SEN visits Tai Po District (with photos)

Accompanied by the Chairman of the TPDC, Mr Cheung Hok-ming, and the District Officer (Tai Po), Ms Eunice Chan, Mr Wong first called at Tsz Shan Monastery. The monastery is situated on a scenic hillside in harmony with the surrounding environment and demonstrates a variety of landscaping plants. Instead of incense offerings, the monastery has adopted water offerings as tributes to Buddha, and the water is then reused for irrigation to conserve resources and reduce waste and carbon emissions.
Mr Wong then departed for the Environmental Education and Organic Farm located on Tung Leung Lane. The farm was jointly set up by three schools in the district with financial assistance from the Environment and Conservation Fund. In addition to being used for educational purposes by students, teachers and parents of the three schools, the farm is also open to other schools and community organisations in and outside the district. Mr Wong chatted with students during his visit to the farm, encouraging them to help promote the approach of sustainable development and practise waste-less and low-carbon living in various aspects of daily life including clothing, food, living and travel.
Before concluding his itinerary, Mr Wong paid a visit to the TPDC to meet with its members and listen to their views on the Government's environmental policies, as well as to learn more about their concerns on district environmental issues.
