Five employee representatives elected to Labour Advisory Board

     Five employee representatives nominated by employee unions registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance were today (November 10) elected to the Labour Advisory Board (LAB) for the next two-year term starting on January 1, 2019.

     The employee representatives returned are (according to the order in the list of candidates):

* Mr Tang Ka-piu (351 votes)
Chairman,
Hong Kong Social Workers and Welfare Employees Union

* Mr Leung Chau-ting (221 votes)
Chief Executive Officer,
Hong Kong Federation of Civil Service Unions

* Mr Chau Siu-chung (295 votes)
Secretary,
Hong Kong Storehouses, Transportation and Logistics Staff Association (HKFLU)

* Mr Lee Kwok-keung (241 votes)
Labour Research Department Officer,
Hong Kong and Kowloon Trades Union Council

* Mr Charles Chan Yiu-kwong (262 votes)
Chairman,
Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, and the Commissioner for Labour cum ex-officio chairman of the LAB, Mr Carlson Chan, congratulated the elected employee representatives.

      "The LAB is a high-level and representative tripartite consultative body. Over the years, the LAB assumes an important role in offering valuable and constructive advice on various labour issues, so as to assist the Government in taking into account and balancing the interests of both employees and employers in the formulation of labour policies and legislation. Building on this solid foundation, I hope that members of the new term will continue to build consensus on issues relating to labour through tripartite dialogue," said Dr Law.

     Mr Chan said, "The LAB provides an effective platform for representatives of employees and those of employers to discuss labour issues, including legislation and Conventions and Recommendations of the International Labour Organisation, on an equal footing. He looks forward to working closely with all members of the LAB in the new term on issues of concern to employees and employers."

     For today's election, 12 candidate nominations were received. Representatives from 390 registered employee unions turned up to vote.
