SFH convenes second co-ordinating meeting on dengue fever this week
*******************************************************************
The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, conducted a co-ordinating meeting on dengue fever again this morning (August 29) to listen to the latest reports and risk assessment by the Department of Health (DH), the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) and the Hospital Authority (HA) with regard to the confirmed local dengue fever case yesterday (August 28) and mosquito control work.

Professor Chan said, "The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the DH is currently conducting epidemiological investigation into the additional case yesterday. The FEHD has immediately stepped up targeted mosquito prevention and control work at the relevant districts in accordance with the established mechanism, and deployed staff to carry out inspections as well as prevention and control work in areas within a 500-metre radius of the residences of the patients and the places visited by them during the incubation period and after illness onset.

"The Government will remain highly alert to the risks of the spread of dengue fever. The FEHD and the relevant departments have strengthened mosquito control efforts in the areas under their purview, and are carrying out the territory-wide anti-mosquito campaign.

"During the meeting, we have reviewed various measures and strategies on mosquito prevention and control. I shall personally co-ordinate the territory-wide anti-mosquito campaign and visit various places to inspect anti-mosquito work," she said.

This is the second co-ordinating meeting on dengue fever convened by Professor Chan this week. The last meeting was held on Monday (August 27).
