At the invitation of The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Charities Trust, the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Development visited Tai Kwun in Central today (July 6) to understand the latest development of the Central Police Station Compound Revitalisation Project (the Revitalisation Project).

Guided by the Director of Tai Kwun, Mr Timothy Calnin, Members visited the heritage programme "Heritage Storytelling Spaces" at the B Hall of Victoria Prison; the heritage thematic exhibition at the Police Headquarters Block; and the art gallery newly built under the Revitalisation Project.  Members also toured the Laundry Steps, the Prison Yard and the Parade Ground where performing arts activities could be held there.

In addition, Members paid a visit to the Visitor Centre at the Barrack Block to learn about Tai Kwun's opening arrangements for members of the public.  Members through this visit gained a better understanding of the latest development of the Revitalisation Project.

Tai Kwun comprises three declared monuments, namely the former Central Police Station, the Central Magistracy and the Victoria Prison.  Under the Revitalisation Project, HKJC constructed an art gallery and an auditorium at Tai Kwun for art exhibitions and performances.

Members participating in the visit included the President of LegCo, Mr Andrew Leung; the Panel Chairman, Mr Tommy Cheung; Panel members Mr Jeffrey Lam, Mr Chan Kin-por, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Chan Chi-chuen and Dr Fernando Cheung; as well as non-Panel member Mr Ip Kin-yuen.
