Award presented for the blood donors in 2018 Annual Donor Award Ceremony (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) held its 2018 Annual Donor Award Ceremony cum World Blood Donor Day Celebration today (June 17) to present awards to donors who achieved 50 donations and above (multiples of 25) in 2017/18. A total of 1,327 donors are awarded. A kick-off ceremony was also held to launch BTS' new mobile app "HK Blood". With the help of the mobile platform, the message of “Give Blood Save Life” would be able to reach more people across the city.

Officiating at the launch ceremony of the mobile app "HK Blood" are the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi (third right); the Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), Professor John Leong Chi-yan (third left); the Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Red Cross, Dr Lau Chor-chiu (second right); the HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin (second left); the Chairman of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) Governing Committee, Mr Ambrose Ho (first left); and the BTS Chief Executive & Medical Director, Dr Lee Cheuk-kwong (first right). The mobile app will be able to facilitate donors to access their blood donation records, make appointments, locate donor centres and mobile service, as well as receive the latest news on blood donation. With the help of the mobile platform, it is hoped that the message 'Give Blood Save Life' can reach more people across the city.
In 2017/18, the total number of donors who cumulatively achieved 25-times donations or its multiples has reached 3,444, which hit the record of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. Among the awarded donors, Mr Li Kam-keung (right) donated blood for 633 times that deserves high appreciation from the community.
