Police concluded a one-month territory-wide enforcement operation against offences related to inattentive driving, including careless driving, speeding, disobeying traffic signals, drink driving or drug driving, and using a handheld telecommunication equipment while driving, on April 30.

This was one of a series of enforcement operations conducted by Police targeting at inattentive driving, with a view to reducing traffic accidents and maintaining a smooth traffic flow.

The operation resulted in the issue of 183 summonses and 7 094 fixed penalty tickets, as well as 60 arrests. Among the summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 4 657 were for speeding, 2 151 were for using a handheld telecommunication equipment while driving, 340 were for disobeying traffic signals and 129 were for careless driving. Police also conducted breath tests on 16 728 drivers. Among them, 51 drivers were arrested for drink driving.

Police appeal to motorists to be on guard behind the wheel and observe three principles, namely "stay focused", "stay alert when starting vehicles" and "defensive driving" when driving. Police will continue to take enforcement actions routinely against offences related to inattentive driving to safeguard all road users.
