Amsterdam Baroque Choir to make debut in Hong Kong under Ton Koopman in May
***************************************************************************
World-renowned early music specialist Ton Koopman will return and lead the Amsterdam Baroque Choir for a concert in May.

Under the baton of Koopman, the choir will give its first Hong Kong concert, featuring Bach's motets including "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied", "Jesu, meine Freude" and "Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf". They will also join pianist Jane Xie in performing works by Brahms, including “Wechsellied zum Tanz", "Der Abend", "Nächtens" and "Zigeunerlieder". The recital will be staged at 8pm on May 29 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall.

Ton Koopman had a classical education and studied organ, harpsichord and musicology in Amsterdam. As an organist and a harpsichordist, Koopman has appeared in the most prestigious concert halls of the world and has played some of the most beautiful historic instruments in Europe. He has also conducted some of the world's most prominent orchestras, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw and the Cleveland Orchestra.

The Amsterdam Baroque Choir was founded in 1992 by Ton Koopman. With its rare combination of textural clarity and interpretative flexibility, it is considered among today's most outstanding choirs. The choir has recorded all its major baroque and classical works with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. Major recognitions include the Gramophone Award, Diapason d'Or, Stern des Monats-Fono Forum, the Prix Hector Berlioz and two Edison Awards.

Jane Xie graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Germany. She won the first prize in the 15th Palma Ramón Llull Rotary International Piano Competition in Spain, becoming the first Chinese winner. She regularly performs in Europe, the United States, Australia, Korea, Singapore and the Mainland.
