"The main purpose of my delegation to Guangzhou and Beijing is to visit hospitals and universities of Chinese medicine and call on relevant Mainland authorities including the National Health Commission, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province, with a view to promoting the development of a Chinese medicine hospital," Professor Chan said.
"We are now actively preparing and planning the first Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong. We will visit a number of Chinese medicine hospitals in Guangzhou and Beijing to have a thorough understanding of various aspects of the operation of a Chinese medicine hospital, including the scope of service, mode of management, human resource training and scientific research. A Chinese medicine hospital is something new in Hong Kong's healthcare system. I believe that the precious experience of Chinese medicine hospitals in the Mainland is of high reference value for us to develop a Chinese medicine hospital in future."
The delegation comprises: the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Health), Ms Elizabeth Tse; the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan; Project Director (Chinese Medicine Hospital Project Office) (Designate), Dr Cheung Wai-lun; and representatives from the Food and Health Bureau, the Department of Health, the Hospital Authority and the Architectural Services Department. The delegation will visit Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine tomorrow (April 25) and will depart for Beijing in the evening.
In Beijing, the delegation will call on the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They will also visit Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University.
