A delegation led by the Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, started their visit to Guangzhou today (April 24). They met with the Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission, Mr Duan Yufei, and the Director of the Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province, Mr Xu Qingfeng.

"The main purpose of my delegation to Guangzhou and Beijing is to visit hospitals and universities of Chinese medicine and call on relevant Mainland authorities including the National Health Commission, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province, with a view to promoting the development of a Chinese medicine hospital," Professor Chan said.

"We are now actively preparing and planning the first Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong. We will visit a number of Chinese medicine hospitals in Guangzhou and Beijing to have a thorough understanding of various aspects of the operation of a Chinese medicine hospital, including the scope of service, mode of management, human resource training and scientific research. A Chinese medicine hospital is something new in Hong Kong's healthcare system. I believe that the precious experience of Chinese medicine hospitals in the Mainland is of high reference value for us to develop a Chinese medicine hospital in future."
