FEHD launches new website on green burial (with photo)
******************************************************
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has launched a new thematic website "Green Burial" (greenburial.gov.hk) to facilitate public access to information on green burial services.

A spokesman for the FEHD said today (March 30), "Green burial is a more environmentally friendly and sustainable means of ash disposal. The FEHD has been actively promoting green burial through various channels to disseminate the message 'Returning to Nature, What Nature Creates' to the public. The new website on green burial provides a one-stop information hub for members of the public to browse the information on various green burial services."

With a clear and simple webpage design, the FEHD re-organised green burial information on its website and re-arranged it under three main themes, "Scattering of Cremains in Gardens of Remembrance", "Scattering of Cremains at Sea" and "Internet Memorial Service",  in the thematic website, providing detailed information such as application procedures, locations of the Gardens of Remembrance, designated areas for scattering of cremated human ashes at sea and associated ferry services, as well as promotional materials.

In addition, responsive web design is used on the new website to facilitate web surfing with mobile phones and tablet computers. The new website can detect the device used and display the appropriate size and content automatically for a smoother browsing experience.

The spokesman said the efforts made by the Government over the years to promote green burial are seeing results. The number of green burial cases handled by the FEHD in 2017 accounted for about 12.9 per cent of the total number of deaths in Hong Kong, a significant increase compared with 4.6 per cent in 2010.

Besides the launch of the thematic website, the FEHD set up the "Internet Memorial Service" (www.memorial.gov.hk) in 2010 for members of the public to create memorial webpages for their ancestors free of charge so that they can pay tribute and express condolences to their lost loved ones at any time and from anywhere online.

For enquiries about green burial services, please contact 1823 or the FEHD during office hours at 2174 7697.
