Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine valued at $26 million (with photos)

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 26 kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $26 million during an operation conducted on March 7.

     Customs officers on March 7 found two consignments at an industrial building in Tsuen Wan that had arrived from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil via the Mainland. After an in-depth examination, suspected cocaine weighing about 26kg in total was found inside two noodle-making machines inside the parcels.

     Follow-up investigations by Customs officers led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (March 15).

     Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
