"Hi! Hill" to highlight integration of art, nature and village life (with photos)
*********************************************************************************
A public art project entitled "Hi! Hill" organised by the Art Promotion Office was launched today (March 11). Through site-specific artworks displayed at Chuen Lung Village, Tsuen Wan, which have been created by various artists, the project aims to reveal past memories of the village and strengthen empathy with the local community.

The project invited various artists, namely Leung Chi-wo, Kingsley Ng, Tang Kwok-hin, Kacey Wong, Chak Wai-leung, Ray Chan, Chung Wai-ian and Ng Ka-chun, Monti Lai, Agnes Lee, Rainbow Leung, Leo Wong, Yip Kai-chun, Ricky Yeung and history educator Chu Yiu-kwong, to visit Chuen Lung Village, paying particular attention to different features of the village, such as the former Chuen Lung Koon Man School, the village office and teahouse. After experiencing village life and customs and communicating with the local community, the artists have created site-specific artworks inspired by past and present images of Chuen Lung focusing on its geographical uniqueness, school memories, the daily life of villagers and their personal views of Chuen Lung. It is hoped that by visiting the village and seeing the artworks, members of the public will be able to experience forgotten aspects of village life, and for the younger generation to understand more about the local village culture and history.

During the project period activities such as workshops, guided tours, sharing sessions and performances will be held to improve public understanding of the old village and its way of life.

The opening party was held today. Officiating guests included the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; the Chair of the Make A Difference Institute, Ms Ada Wong; the Head of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau, Indigenous Inhabitant Representatives of Chuen Lung Mr Tsang Kwan-sang, Mr Jonathan Tsang and Mr Tsang Wing-kau; and Resident Representative of Chuen Lung Mr Tsang Kwan-fai.

"Hi! Hill" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Art Promotion Office, with the Make A Difference Institute as the curatorial partner (art in-situ).

The project will run until August 12. For details of the programme and activities, please visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/en_US/web/apo/hi_hill.html, Facebook page www.facebook.com/apo.hihill, or call 2512 3000 for enquiries.
