Launch of KMB monthly pass scheme approved
******************************************
The Transport Department (TD) announced today (February 9) that approval has been given to Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB) to launch a monthly pass with effect from March 1.

A spokesman for the TD said, "Public transport expenses are an essential part of our daily living expenses. The approved KMB monthly pass can relieve public transport expense burdens for passengers, especially long-distance commuters or frequent patrons of KMB services. For example, for residents in the northwest or north New Territories who need to travel to Hong Kong Island for work, their public transport expenses may be reduced by about 20 per cent."

KMB's monthly pass, with its price set at $780, will be applicable to most of the KMB bus routes (including the jointly operated routes, overnight routes and recreational routes), but not applicable to MTR "K" feeder routes. Monthly pass holders will be able to enjoy 10 rides on KMB routes and two rides on route B1 using the pass every day within the validity month of the monthly pass.

KMB will install monthly pass sale machines at major covered public transport interchanges and termini in Kowloon and the New Territories. Passengers can use Octopus cards to purchase the KMB monthly pass for March at the monthly pass sales machines from February 14 onwards. Upon completion of the purchase transaction, the monthly pass will be recorded automatically in the Octopus card concerned. Each Octopus card can be used for the purchase and the recording of the monthly passes of the current month and the next month at the same time.

KMB will upload details of the monthly pass to its website. Passengers may also call 1823 for enquires.

The TD will continue to encourage other franchised bus companies to pay regard to the prevailing circumstances in the trade, and actively explore the introduction of monthly pass schemes with a view to benefiting passengers.
