SCS visits Government Property Agency (with photos)

     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, today (February 5) visited the Government Property Agency and met with its staff of various grades to know more about the Agency's work and enhance mutual communication.
      
     Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Law first met with the Government Property Administrator, Mr Tommy Yuen, and the directorate staff. During the meeting, he received an update on the department's work including the relocation of government bureaux/departments out of the Wan Chai Government Offices Complex (WCGOC), modern office initiatives, and work related to property management and estate utilisation of government properties.
      
     Mr Law then toured the Acquisition, Allocation and Disposal Division and the Management Services Division to learn more about their work. The former is mainly responsible for co-ordinating and allocating government offices and quarters, while the latter assesses the office accommodation and furniture requirements of government departments. He was also introduced to the next generation of government office furniture being tested at the Management Services Division. The new furniture items are expected to complement the modern office layout and provide a more efficient and comfortable workplace for staff.
         
     Mr Law also visited the Technical Services Division, where he was briefed on the various replacement building projects for the relocation of the WCGOC. As the relocation exercise is a mega project involving 29 bureaux/departments and over 10,000 staff, he said he was pleased to know that the Government has been actively pursuing the replacement building projects in phases, and that the West Kowloon Government Offices planned by the Agency, which is the first replacement project, is expected to be completed next year. It will be used for reprovisioning some of the government offices in the WCGOC and other leased premises as well as meeting new requirements.
      
     Before concluding his visit, Mr Law had a tea gathering with staff representatives of various grades to exchange views on matters that concerned them. He expressed appreciation for colleagues' hard work and encouraged them to continue to manage and utilise government accommodation in a cost-effective manner.
