************************************************************
The Kick-off ceremony for the Tsuen Wan Cleaning Campaign was held today (February 3) at the piazza of Citywalk I, Tsuen Wan, in support of the cleaning tradition before the Lunar New Year. It also encouraged members of the public to keep their homes and the environment clean, and to promote the message of maintaining environmental hygiene.

The ceremony was organised by the Tsuen Wan District Council (TWDC), the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Directors and the Tsuen Wan District Office. Officiating guests included the Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan; the Chairman of the TWDC, Mr Chung Wai-ping; the Vice Chairman of the TWDC, Mr Wong Wai-kit; the District Officer (Tsuen Wan), Miss Jenny Yip; the Chairlady of the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Directors, Mrs Yim Tsui Yuk-shan; and the District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent (Tsuen Wan) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, Ms Nasreen Khattak.

The ceremony included stage performances, Chinese medicine consultation and a health talk. After the ceremony, cleaning packs were distributed to disseminate the message of keeping the environment clean, and encourage local residents to take part in the cleaning activities in the district.

The Tsuen Wan Cleaning Campaign includes a series of activities to promote environmental hygiene. Cleaning ambassadors were recruited from schools in Tsuen Wan to help promote the message of keeping clean on campus and at home. Youth volunteers of the Tsuen Wan District Youth Corps will join hands with elderly volunteers from the Yan Chai Hospital Fong Yock Yee Neighbourhood Elderly Centre to visit the elderly in the district and help needy families clean up their homes.

The TWDC has always been concerned about the environmental hygiene in the district. Apart from providing advice to the Government on public environmental hygiene services in the district, various types of community activities are organised by its working groups regularly to promote the importance of keeping the environment clean among the residents of Tsuen Wan.
